There is a popular phrase, “You need to get outside of your comfort zone.” Well, I am telling you, I am so far outside of my comfort zone that if it exploded, I would not even hear the noise!
And yet…I have never been more fulfilled in the work I am doing. It feels like the most natural place for me to be. It feels like destiny.
This weekend I had the honor of singing in all three services at Lubbock’s Trinity Church. The people there were so loving and gracious to me. I am grateful to Pastor Carl Toti, and to Pastor Stacy Ward for giving me the opportunity to sing for that wonderful body of believers. We are looking forward to having a lot of those folks come to Ragtown Gospel Theater on the strength of the glowing words Carl shared with them. He and Gloria celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary by attending a performance of Peter the Rock on a night when I happened to be the featured singer for the gospel music show.
I have been praying for the Lord to open doors into churches, and show me how we can we can tell people about the theater, so more can experience all that happens in this special place. It had not occurred to me that those doors would be invitations to sing. Particularly at a church the size of Trinity.
When the pastor suggested it, I was shocked to hear myself saying…eagerly, “Absolutely!” I knew the Lord had to be in it, because such a thing would have been absolutely unthinkable only six months ago.
If you have been to the theater, you may have heard my story. It is too long to share here, except to say that I was not a gospel singer until March of this year. I was saved by grace forty-two years ago, but when I sang Sinner Saved By Grace at Trinity Church on Sunday, it was the first time I had performed a song in a church service.
It is a miraculous thing that has happened to me since the night the Lord made singing gospel music the desire of my heart. And it continues to unfold.
Bless Y’all,
Chip
