Is Uncle Sam A Victim Of Identity Theft?

It didn’t occur to me that the presidential election campaigns would be stirring to life before this production was over…but here we are. The message in “Joey Hallelujah! God Loves America!” suddenly seems all the more timely. It isn’t a political message, but it is a play that makes the daring suggestion that America needs to recover her will, and restore her lost identity. It is patriotic, so yeah, there are those who would say it is, therefore, politically incorrect.

Which pretty much makes the point.

I’ve long held that I can’t even change my own mind…much less anybody else’s. But because I have come to faith in Christ, I can choose to live moment by moment in dependence upon Jesus. In my right mind…my heart’s desire is to live every hour of every day of my life depending upon the wise and nurturing counsel of the Spirit of Truth to be constantly renewing and informing my thoughts, as the world, the flesh, and the devil lay snare after snare in my path. But I don’t, because many of those snares work all too well.

Still I can also depend on this: Absolutely without regard to how many times, and how many ways I fall on my face, I can depend on the Lord to offer me His hand and pull me back up on my feet. He steadies me, and points me back in the right direction on the path.

We can depend on the Lord to do that for us as a nation. How does that work? If we stubborn, independent Americans who profess to be Christian would choose to truly live in individual dependence…not upon the church, nor upon a religious tradition…but upon Jesus Christ alone, we would witness an earth-shaking change in this country. If we, the 75% of the population of the United States…239,000,000 of us who believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord, will individually choose to relentlessly cling to the Truth…the Way…and the Life…our identity as a nation would be restored.

And that would change the world.

I don’t know if that is what God has in mind, but I pray that it is. I pray that we are about to see Christian Americans unite to take back our lost freedoms, our common sense, and our sacred identity…One Nation Under God.
