The Gaither Vocal Band Made Me Want To Stand Up And Shout!

By | Chip's Blog

A few weeks back the Ragtown Gospel Band appeared at a Gaither Vocal Band Concert in Lubbock. Okay…we “appeared” on row nine, row two, and row sixteen in the audience. It was wonderful, and inspirational to all of us, as the Gaithers always are. It is great to just soak up the goodness of that amazing group. I just wanted to stand up and shout! No…not like that. I wanted to stand up and shout to all those hundreds of…

Shows Canceled This Weekend Due To Weather

By | Chip's Blog

We have a forecast of more snow, rain, and ice, with temperatures never rising above freezing this weekend. As bad as we hate to do it, we’ve decided to cancel both the Friday and Saturday shows. We’re on the phone now, calling the folks who had planned to attend. Things like this happen, and all we can do is trust that the Lord will bring lots of people next week to make up for the loss. Joey Hallelujah! God Loves…

JOEY HALLELUJAH RETURNS IN A BRAND NEW COMEDY

By | Chip's Blog

The inimitable televangelist, the Reverend Joey Hallelujah, returns to the Ragtown stage in rare form on February 20th, in JOEY HALLELUJAH! GOD LOVES AMERICA! Of course, we couldn’t bring back Joey Hallelujuah and leave out the lovable Apostle John. In this new play, the sequel to SAINT JOHN & THE TELEVANGELIST, Joey is attempting to restore Hallelujah International Ministries to its former popularity. His claims of traveling back through time and meeting the Apostle John on the Island of Patmos…

It’s Here! PAVE THE WAY…A New CD from Chip Polk & The Ragtown Gospel Band!

By | Chip's Blog

Our long-awaited new CD is finally here, and I couldn’t be prouder of it. Pave The Way is a collection of some of the greatest gospel songs ever written. They are songs that are everyone’s favorites from our performances at Ragtown, and ones that we have been asked time and again to record. Each one has a message of encouragement and assurance that will speak to your heart. We’ve already sold almost 300 CDs, and our early reviews are beyond…

The Real Meaning Of Christmas

By | Chip's Blog

The story of the birth of Jesus, as familiar as it is to all of us, has never been told from the compelling perspective you will see revealed in Bethlehem.. From before the creation of man, God the Father knew that Satan would manipulate Adam and Eve into opposing Him, and thereby alienate God and man. To be reconciled to His creation, the Father knew that one day He would have to watch His Son endure being sacrificed on a…

BETHLEHEM…BETHLEHEM I COME

By | Chip's Blog

We were staying at a kibbutz on the outskirts of Jerusalem. Outside the window of our room, the hillside Shepherd’s Field was bathed in moonlight. It was upon that field that the angel descended to herald the birth of Jesus. Bethlehem was visible beyond the crest of the next hill. I stood there and imagined Gabriel Ramirez, as Jesus, singing Bethlehem I Come from the musical  BETHLEHEM, which I had written, and we had staged three years earlier. And there…

BETHLEHEM…A Completely New Experience

By | Chip's Blog

“You need to get our of your comfort zone” is a phrase the popular culture tosses out there, as if being comfortable in your life and circumstances is somehow a bad thing.   Speaking as a guy who lives so far out of his comfort zone that it could explode and I wouldn’t even hear the noise, I’m saying a little time back there sounds pretty good. There are two shows at Ragtown, as you know. One happens in front…

Jesus Isn’t Winning…He Won

By | Chip's Blog

We talk a lot about the Ragtown experience. I was thinking this morning about what that really is.  At least, this is what I hope it is for everyone who walks through our doors. It is two hours of what it feels like to experience an authentic relationship with Jesus. You can hear a lot of promises being made in the name of Jesus these days. Promises of restored health, accumulated wealth, and and total control of your circumstances. You…

“Daughters of God”

By | Chip's Blog

I just finished my latest play, and I didn’t get the title for it until the very end, but it is the perfect one. “Daughters of God” will be staged from June 20th until August 16th, and I hope every Christian woman within 300 miles of Post finds a way to see it. There is something different about this play. Something very different about the way I feel about it. It isn’t often that I love a play when I…

Ragtown Is More Than A Theater. It’s An Oasis

By | Uncategorized

Oasis…that is a great description of Ragtown. That’s really what it feels like, isn’t it? An Oasis for people who have been crossing all kinds of deserts…physical, mental, emotional, spiritual…then here is this place where you lay your burden down, and for a couple of hours drink in refreshing living water. Our wonderful production of “Gethsemane” ends this weekend, and while this particular play has been far more somber than recent shows like “Saint John & The Televangelist” and “Say…
